For the last 3 years, the vague concept of travelling through the US has been simmering but has never reached the boil of a plan. And now I find myself at the bar of Sydney Airport barely a month before my eventual departure, half cut on pricey beers and ill-conceived notions with no idea of how to proceed but the certain knowledge I must.<br /><br />The first order of business is to get rid of my stuff. The excess baggage charge to lug the sum total of my current assets from Port Mac to Bathurst has been $82. The security blankets of home, dragged pointlessly across the state to help mask in my own mind the lack of interesting things to say, even to myself.<br /><br />Let's not get maudlin.
